Cafe Cre Asion, Surry Hills

The lovely ChocolateSuze and I met up for lunch together yesterday, and it was decided that our meeting point would be Cafe Cre Asion for some sandwiches and macaron goodness.  Cafe Cre Asion is tucked away in Alberta Street, right next to Berta, and it's the perfect spot to meet someone you have never met before, as they won't get lost in any crowds here.  However, that doesn't mean this place doesn't get busy, because it does.

They have a small, but nice sandwich menu so I didn't have to think too hard.  Yesterday was not a good day for me, I can tell you that much, not quite space cadety, but close to it.  Suze easily went for the Jamon sandwich, and for something different, I went for the smoked salmon toastie.  There was a vegetarian choice, but I have to be in a particular mood to eat olives.

Nice, small and basic sandwich menu

Suze's Jamon serrano and Tasmania Heidi Farm Gruyere cheese on sourdough came first, and Suze had to prompt a zoned out me to take photos. Yes, I  can be a bad food blogger sometimes.  As sharing is caring, Suze's offered me half of her sandwich. It was a lovely ham and cheese toastie  that was perfect for a cold winter's lunch with it's dripping and gooey cheese centre, slightly salty Jamon and buttery goodness.

Jamon serrano and Tasmania Heidi Farm Gruyere cheese on sourdough, $8.50

My smoked salmon, pickle fennel, capers and soft boiled eggs on sourdough arrived with much anticipation.  I was worried that the egg on my mine was going to be a cold egg, but it wasn't.  It was lovely, warm and inviting with it's subtle hint of pickle fennel, capers and tasty smoked sandwich.  This sandwich would have been right up Cheesecake Boy's alley, but he couldn't make it for lunch that day.  I will admit that I happily sighed after my two sandwich halves, the carbs were the perfect stress relief.

Smoked salmon, pickle fennel, capers and soft boiled eggs on sourdough, $9

Since, Cheesecake Boy couldn't  make it to lunch, I did decide to buy us some sweet treats to share together.  It was meant to be just macarons, but I spotted some chocolate salt cookies that Cheesecake Boy would not be able to say no to.

Box of 14 macarons for $30 and a packet of six chocolate salt cookies $7.50

The chocolate salt cookies have a truffled chocolate shortbread texture to them.  To add to the richness of these cookies, there were small dark chocolate chunks dispersed throughout and a light sprinkle of salt that intensified the favour of the velvety chocolate cookies.  Delicate, but indulgent would be the best way to describe these little chocolaty morsels.

A cookie for your thoughts...

Yes, I did end up with all fourteen different macarons, but I did not keep track of all the different flavours as there were way too many.  These macarons have a lovely crisp shell, but were still soft inside, and the fillings were nice and creamy.  More importantly they were packed with flavour and all uniquely distinct as well.

Favourites for Cheesecake Boy and I were definitely the blood orange, caramel, chocolate, plum wine and yuzu.  Look at those delicate feet and creamy centres, sigh.

Cafe Cre Asion was the perfect place for a carb fix in one hand, and a sweet treat on the other with it's cosy and intimate surroundings.  I can definitely see why it's Suze's happy place.  On to another note though, after some convincing from Suze Cheesecake Boy and I have joined twitter, so if you want to follow Cheesecake Boy and my eating adventures some more just click on the follow us twitter button on the side bar.

Tweeting away, Dumpling Girl.

Hey gastronomous anonymous, lol it's hard to resist temptation, but I really enjoyed the salmon sandwich so you should definitely give it a try.

Hello Suze, it was lovely to meet you too. Definitely, it's a date :)

Hi Joey, the sandwich was definitely a nice surprise.

Hi MissPiggy, it's a great little spot, it's annoying when places aren't close to work :(

Looks like you guys ordered some pretty decent stuff. I would have had both the jamon and cheese and the smoked salmon and boiled eggs.

Man the sandwiches sound good! I'm sorry your day did not go well before, but I hope these days you're feeling much better! I know a macaron a day surely makes the blues go away! ;-)

Hi Julie, lol may be it's a blessing in disguise that you don't work close by as temptation is very hard to resist :)

Hello chopinand, both toasties were really decent and it's great that you can choose what bread you want it with. Next time I'm going for the brioche.

Hi Sophia, thanks that's really kind of you. Macarons definitely have that effect especially with a toastie :D
