Red Chilli Sichuan Restaurant - Chinatown, Sydney

Cheesecake Boy and I love Sichuan food.  We usually frequent the Chatswood restaurant of Red Chilli Sichuan Restaurant, but we're lucky they have five restaurants and after work we duck into the Chinatown restaurant behind Harbour Plaza to ease our chilli cravings.

The first time Cheesecake Boy and I visited the Chatswood branch, we ordered the fried diced chicken with dried chilli, that was only indicated as having a heat level of two chillis.  We didn't think it would be too hot, but we were so wrong.  It was so hot that we couldn't eat the dish, and no amount of beers and water eased our pain that day.  Apparently, it is one of the hottest dishes on the menu, so you have been warned.   We have learnt our lesson, and now get an indication of the heat of dishes from the staff before we order.

Pho Pasteur - Chinatown, Sydney

Apologies for the lack of posts lately.  Cheesecake Boy and I have been super busy, and then we both came down with a terrible bug late yesterday afternoon, so we really hit the bed hard.  We're definitely the couple that eats together, and gets sick together.  Today's post is special to Cheesecake Boy and I, so I wanted to do it justice.  You see, Pho Pasteur is where Cheesecake Boy and I started our food journey together.

Cheesecake Boy and I always think fondly of Pho Pasteur.  Besides being the place that serves Cheesecake Boy's and my favourite combination broken rice with fried egg to date.  More importantly, Pho Pasteur is where Cheesecake Boy and I had our very first friends/more than friends dinner together.  I think he bought me here, to impress me with his ability to order in Vietnamese.  I am still impressed, but probably more amused now.  There were a couple of other group dinners prior, that found us conveniently sitting next to each other every time.  However, six years ago, just the two of us met up here.  Now we're practically inseparable, truly we are.

This place later became a regular lunch haunt for Sushi Girl, KFC Girl and I.  We would need to get our fix weekly, and eventually learnt that the abrupt waiter whom we would eventually refer to as Grump Grum, was actually a kind man who only wanted me to brush up on my terrible Cantonese.  Later he even knew our orders off by heart.  However, things change and the regular visits stopped, but I still come on occasion.  This time I had a serious combination broken rice with fried egg craving, and Pho Girl likes to get her pho fix here, so it was the perfect choice for lunch.

Haymarket Chinese Restaurant - Chinatown, Sydney

Last Friday lunch was special, as Cheesecake Boy was able to clear some time from his hectic work schedule and have lunch with me.  However, I was feeling a bit under the weather and felt like something plain and comforting, so it was decided that we would have a congee lunch.  We always go to Haymarket Chinese Restaurant to get our congee fix in Chinatown.

Haymarket Chinese Restaurant has been in Chinatown for as long as I can remember. However, it wasn't until a couple of years ago, when one of Cheesecake Boy's friend's claimed this was his favourite congee in Chinatown, that we decided to give this place a try.

Home Thai Restaurant - Chinatown, Sydney

It was another Friday date night of roaming the city streets after work that led us here.  I had been trying to bring Cheesecake Boy to Home Thai Restaurant for a while, but we always got side tracked or impatient me, was not going to wait.  However, we were lucky that Friday, as we were early enough for once and managed to score a table in five minutes, the people waiting after us were not so lucky.  The lure of the Thai desserts available, was the main reason why I wanted to eat here that night.

The entrance and the queue that followed

We were led to the upstairs dining area, you really have to squish in.  When I was going up, I noticed that the kitchen was in full force, it was only around 6pm at the time.  Definitely, no time to be idle in there.

Gumshara - Chinatown, Sydney

Since visiting Ryo's Noodles Cheesecake Boy has gone crazy for tonkotsu ramen, so on Friday date night as I was not too hungry after my huge Miso Japanese Restaurant lunch we ended up at Gumshara in Chinatown.  Gumshara specialises in tonkotsu ramen and is hidden inside Eating World Harbour Plaza, one of the many food courts in Chinatown.

You'll have to forgive me for some of the photos, as the battery of my camera died when we got to the food, so the only way I could continue on was with my Blackberry, but back to the food...
