Fish Frenzy - Hobart, Tasmania

If you haven't read our 'about us' section recently then you may not know that Cheesecake Boy is a Tassie farm boy and so for my birthday last year, Cheesecake Boy took me down to Tasmania to show me where he grew up.  Now, I was really looking forward to this trip and for a week, we were going to drive from Hobart to explore the east coast of Tasmania and end up in Launceston and back to Hobart.

Unfortunately, my childhood bout of motion sickness which I thought I had gotten over, kicked in, and I was plagued with motion sickness for most of the week, as Cheesecake Boy drove up the east coast towards Launceston.  Most of our restaurant reservations had to be cancelled, and for some strange reason only sausage rolls managed to settle my stomach and seafood was definitely a no-no whilst we were driving.

However, towards the end of our trip we made our way back to Cheesecake Boy's family farm, this gave me time to settle down and recuperate.  We were then able to take a short drive to Hobart and try Fish Frenzy that is down by Elizabeth Street Pier.

We ordered the Fish Frenzy to share, that consisted of crumbed fish, scallops, calamari and chips.  One thing about Tasmania that I loved was that Tasmanian scallops were everywhere, even though I was unable to eat most of the trip, scallops are my favourite type of shellfish.

The selection of seafood comes crumbed and served in a paper cone, which I loved.  As for the food, Cheesecake Boy till this day still claims this to be his favourite fish and chips.   The fish and calamari was so tender and the scallops were succulent.  The quality of the seafood was just so fresh down here and you could really taste that in the fish and chips too.

Fish Frenzy is in such a beautiful spot in Hobart, and it was relaxing  place to be in, on that late Saturday afternoon.  I only remember it was Saturday as we also managed to stroll around Salamanca Markets before walking up this way.

Just a warning in case you ever decide to visit Tasmania, it was summer when we came and I stupidly backed a bag predominantly of dresses and did not prepare for the swift and cold winds down there.  One morning it was just seven degrees, so don't be fooled by the sunshine and make sure you pack plenty of clothes that will keep you warm and cosy.

Happy eating, Dumpling Girl.

Were the scallops crumbed as well? Not sure how a crumbed scallop would taste. Also I hear scallops in Tassie are always served roe on.

Hello aparrafan - those round little blobs are the crumbed scallops in the picture, I can't remember if there was roe on that one but at another place that I tried down there, there wasn't any roe. I think you might be wanting a lot of MKR :)
