Miso Japanese Restaurant - World Square, Sydney

It's another Friday catch up lunch and we are seriously unlucky today.  My friend and I had decided to meet up at Seabay Chinese Dumpling Restaurant but the tables were all reserved, so we decided to try and test our luck at Ding Tai Fung as it was still quite early but there was already a queue.  To our surprise Miso was not busy yet and we got table without needing to wait for a change.

We are looking at the menus and can't decide as they have changed the menus since we came last. Finally, my friend settled on the chirashi sushi and sashimi set for something healthy and I am the naughty one that goes for the chirashi sushi and tonkatsu set.  Both sets came with sides of miso soup, potato salad, konnyaku noodles and yoghurt  with a berry topping to finish.

The salmon in the chirashi sushi is lightly torched on top and this is nice and simple.  There is a sweet sauce that is drizzled on the salmon as well as some mayonaise and this goes nicely with the rice.

When I normally come here, it's a full tonkatsu set all the way, but I felt like something different this time.  I never miss an opportunity to have tonkatsu at Miso, in my opinion I have not had a tonkatsu that tastes as good as this one.  To start, the quality of this pork is better than most places and the fillet is the right thickness to bite into.  The coating is just right and gives a wonderful crunch when you bite into it.  After the frying the tonkatsu still maintains a nice juiciness about it.

For a fantastic tonkatsu I highly recommend this place, my friend agrees that there is no better tonkatsu than the one here at Miso too.  I've been lunching here with friends since this place opened three years ago and after many lunch visits here the tonkatsu has never disappointed.  The service is always quick and efficient for a work day lunch.  This is a reliable lunch or dinner spot to keep in mind, if you can get there early.  Otherwise, you may not be able to secure a table and in true Makoto style you'll need to put your name down and grab a ticket.

Happy eating, Dumpling Girl.
